Kid yelling on the street: “FIVE GIGABIT! DID YOU HEAR?! WESTON NOW HAS FIVE GIGABIT!!!“
Everyone else: *scoffs and continues on their way*
So what Is the big deal? Why was the kid yelling that five gigabit internet was now available at his house?
Well, there are several reasons, one of which is that he no longer has to yell and scream that his competitive Fortnite career doesn’t have to come to an end and could actually be a remote possibility since his internet is now ROCK SOLID. Fiber is the internet, at the speed of light. Not only is fiber optic internet impervious to electromagnetic interference, meaning less issues for the subscriber, it can also carry super fast speeds (up to 800Gbps over a single strand of glass thinner than your hair that spans the entire Atlantic Ocean) in both directions.
Cable internet is great if you can get it, with download speeds up to 1Gbps and upload speeds up to 50Mbps, it’s nothing to turn your nose up to. It’s just very expensive and if you aren’t close to the central office, you may notice degradation of service or even periods of time with no service at all.
