Proxmox server upgrades, VPN outage for 36+ hours, getting the full 5gbps down/up over Frontier Fiber now

Hey guys! I haven’t posted any updates in a while, and thought I’d drop a few lines here. I don’t think anybody even reads this, so it’s more of a diary of my tech escapades than anything else.

Anyway, added a new dual port 10 gig card to my Proxmox server today. I ended up figuring out that I wasn’t getting full speed because of the VIRTIO drivers when using Proxmox bridges and passthrough mode allows pfSense to utilize the cards as if they were physically plugged into the VM pfSense install. Cool stuff indeed. Only thing that is a bummer is that when you pass them through to a VM, they become inaccessible to other VMS via bridging or anything other service Proxmox offers. Hence, the new 10gbit card that I can hook up and pass through to the VMs.

Then I run into my currently dilemma. How to do all of this with only two 10 gig ports on my switch. I should have enough ports to even jumper from NIC to NIC if I have to in order to utilize all 4 ports. One is taken up by Frontier coming and another is taken up by the 10/2.5Gbe switch. Trying to figure out how to get 10 gig without needing another port on the switch. I’ll figure it out. Eventually. Lol

An last, but not least, I’ve been getting yelled at over the VPN going down. Turns out that was because when I changed the NIC to bridged mode, the MAC changed, so in turn, the IP address changed. The one saved in the DMZ settings of the wireless residential gateway given by Frontier was incorrect, causing all of my port forwards to stop working for the past few days.
